  • No age limit – Unlike the RRSP, you can contribute to your TFSA for as long as you’d like.
  • Use it for short and long-term goals – You don’t have to repay a TFSA withdrawal.
  • Carry over withdrawals – Any withdrawal you make adds extra contribution room the following year.
  • Carry over unused room – Couldn't contribute this year? Carry forward the unused room to future years.
  • It can hold a number of investments – Term deposits, mutual funds, stocks and bonds included.

Things to remember: 

  • Total contribution limits from the introduction of TFSAs in 2009 through 2024 should not exceed $95,000.
  •  Eligible for Canadians, 18 years old or older.

TFSA Early Bird Saver

Take advantage of 5.00% interest with our Early Bird TFSA Saver*:

  • Starting October 1, earn 5.00% interest until December 31, 2025 when you deposit your 2026 TFSA contribution into our short-term GIC.
  • Deposit a minimum of $100 and a maximum of your annual contribution amount.
  • Funds will be automatically transferred to your Northern Birch TFSA plan in January, 2026.
  • Interest earned will be deposited into your Northern Birch chequing or savings account and is taxable.

Deposit October 1, 2025 for a maximum return on your investment.

*Eligible for Ontarians 18 and older. Must be a member of Northern Birch Credit Union. Minimum contribution of $100, no maximum contribution for the Early Bird TFSA Saver promotion. Promotion open from October 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025. All interest rates are calculated per annum. Interest rate is calculated from the time that the deposit is made until December 31, 2025.

By making the Early Bird TFSA Saver GIC deposit, the member designates the principal of the GIC to go into their TFSA. Funds designated for the member’s TFSA will be automatically transferred in January, 2026.  Interest accumulated on the deposit will be automatically deposited into the member’s active chequing or savings account on December 31, 2025. Interest accumulated from the promotion is subject to taxation.
